I recently bought a 2005 Excursion 6.0 :D and was curious about a few things. First, does the 6.0 respond well to a cooler thermostat like the Cummins does? Where can I purchase a cooler stat as most vendors dont seem to carry them.

additionally, could you knowledgable folks please provide some guidance on whether to buy a dummy EGR or simply disconnect the existing ( for off road testing purposes only......... of course  )

All suggestions , advice, guidance and debate is welcome

Welcome to the site you will like it here.

Not sure about the thermostat on the 6.0 I am still learning its quirks. completely differnt animal form my 7.3.

But yes you can get another egr and plug her in to Test the egr system.
most recommed to clean it regularly, and drive at a pace that keeps the build up down,
if you do mostly stop go traffic driving i would rec. cleaning it and carrying a spare. or drive some good freeway speeds and move some air and it should be fine.
you know blow out the soot from time to time
I plan to pull mine at my 15k maint. oil change etc. just to see how its all holding up.

Welcome Motorhead !!!
that username is familiar !!
Ya don't have to hide the adjustments as much on this site as on some getapo sites !!!!

At least on my 05 - all "adjustments" to the egr blew a chk engine lite... and talking to an SCT XCal2 tuner, he said leave it connected and turn it off with the XCal....

Not sure about the Cummins, but I thought the 7.3 ran better with a hotter thermostat?
