Do the front hubs have to be in " lock " mode to engage the 4x4 low range?
Never had this setup on my other 4x4's . When I engage the switch ( new thing again) to 4x4 regular the light comes on , yet when I turn it to 4x4 low the low range light does not come on . Is this still vacumn operated like the F-150's? Should I go into a lower gear for the low range to work? Is it possible this is controlled by a fuse? Violent storm last nite up here would have like 4x4 low to have worked, to drive slowly thru washout(anyway)
:thanks Jim

P.S. Took a chance on one of the threads about the egr valve, disconnected it ( althought engine was still cool early morning, punched it to pass someone
:) no sputter)

Shouldn't have to have the hubs locked in to get low range... I do think you need to put the main transmission in neutral for a moment for it to switch. I'm full manual on mine, hubs and transfer case, which makes it nice for jockeying a trailer around...

yep i to believe you must be stopped momentarily and in neutral to get it engage 4 Low at least with my 250 you had to stop then manually shift over and roll forward click click

I have manual hubs and manual transfer case, but as far as the rest goes, it should still engage and then pick up the hubs once the inner parts start turning.

From what I can gather from the manual/auto hub operation is if you are moving and hit 4x4 mode, they will lock in. If you're stopped and or stuck, you need to go out and manually engage them.

That to me sounds pretty retarded... that's why I ordered mine with full manual hubs. I'm not that lazy, I can get out and lock in when needed. But like I said before, when I use low range for backing a trailer into the barn or whatever so I can control it, I don't have to worry about the hubs locking in and tearing up the ground or the driveline.

What you need to keep in mind is that if you are pulling something, like stuck or really heavy and you need the extra reduction for power, not control... then you SHOULD have the front end locked in and pulling as well. With 2 and a half times more torque running to the rear axle only, and you get a hold of something, bad things are gonna happen out back...

I believe the auto hubs are run w' vaccuum. This is my first auto system. Red 6.0 had it correct, stop, neutral, switch to low, put in drive and hang on!

I thought you have to be in neutral and put your foot on the brake too for lo range.
