I thought you have to be in neutral and put your foot on the brake too for lo range.

That's correct, stop, foot on brake, tranny in neutral and then flip the switch over to 4 low.

I believe the auto hubs are run w' vaccuum. This is my first auto system. Red 6.0 had it correct, stop, neutral, switch to low, put in drive and hang on!

As far as I know, the F250 on up does not use vaccuum to engage the hubs. Smaller ones, yeah, but not ours. I could be wrong, but I don't think so honestly...

I drive a few hundred feet with mine very slow, letting off the throttle every now and then and it finnally will go into low range. I've tried going forward and backing up but that didn't work. Getting it outa low can be fun too.

I don't know about your 06, but my 03 has vacuum lines rinning into the knuckles...

My manual says:

1. Come to a complete stop
2. shift transmission into neutral
3. place into 4x4 low
4. shift into drive
5. drive away.

To take out of 4x4 low

1. Come to a complete stop
2. shift to neutral
3. place into 2wd
4. shift into drive
5. drive away.
