Hello all,

I'm new to this forum and this is my first post. I am in the market for a new diesel truck. Right now i have narrowed my search down to two trucks, a 2006 extended cab F350 Powerstroke with 37000km, and a 2003 Quad Cab 2500 Cummins with 105,000km both with long beds. The powerstroke is 38000 cdn dollars and the Cummins is 30500 cdn dollar.

I Like the looks and the interior of the Ford, but I prefer the Cummins engine over the Powerstroke engine due to acceleration, interior noise. Both trucks are in excellent condition.

Could you guys and gals please help me with my decision and adivise to which is a better buy?

Thanks PGDUB.

Welcome to the site.

Since you are asking this question on a Ford Diesel site you are going to get the opinions of a bunch of Ford owners and we are partial to Fords. With that said you could not run fast enough to give me a Dodge even with a good Cummins engine. The Cummins is a fine unit but they have installed it in a worthless truck.

I'm not gonna call it a worthless truck, but Dodge never has been my favorite... I fix these things every day...

one thing to remember, these light truck diesels are nothing like their medium- and heavy-duty brothers, very few parts and even basic designs in common..

Did you post this on the Dodge sit as well? We all drive Fords for a reason. They are the best trucks on the road and sales have proven it for the past 28 or 29 years. Go and buy the Ford so you will be able to look yourself in the mirror.:roflmao :roflmao :roflmao

well if you like looks only, lots of guys like the dodge, if your looking for something to last a long time, id say GM/Ford are the obvious ways to go.

Dodge usually has transmission failures much quicker than the other 2 brands and i still to this day dont feel they live up to any long term abuse over many years that Ford and GM seem to take well.

How many OLD dodges you see driving around? few...
gm/fords? i can count a few dozen on one 15 mile trip down the road in nj

You'll be happier with the Ford in the long run. The 6.0 problems in the 03 and 04 models have been worked out. The Cummins is a great engine, but like Crumm said, you'll hate the truck in the long run. The Ford is just a better truck inside and out!:sweet
Don't hate yourself later....get the Ford!:thumbs

i hear the guys at work talking about thier 6.0L most of them are 05 adn 06 they run great and dollar for dollar you get more truck with ford if you are after creature compforts and some very useful thing like the inegrated trailer brake system but the most common thing they talk about is they are terible on fuel, to me that would depend on alot of things but around here that is what they talk about.... family members own cummins and the common rail motor is very impressive, quiet, powerful, fuel efficient, in the after market you can build a 600 HP motor with less money but i think most everyine on this site would agree that the dodge is ugly, hell they cant even build a full 4 door and the mega cabs have a a shorter bed (which causes huge prblem fot those pulling fifth wheels, trailer cab cleaance is very close and can not put the trailer at shar anlge to get it in tight spot with out hitting the cab) and look lopp sided they just cant seem to get it right in my book... the FORD looks tough and performs well, and if you have deep pockets you can have both, ford with a cummins:) , check out www.fordcummins.com sell the 6.0L put a 05-06 cummins in the ford and you have a monster.... but that is only me... any way you go i am sure you will make the most of it...

Interesting. Never really thought of it .... but that is definitely true. Ford beats Chevy & Dodge on that. I see at least twice as many older Fords on the road than Dodge's. There's got to be a reason for that.
