Where to get info on ODB Readers, Loggers

AutoEnginuity www.autoenginuity.com its the last code reader you'll ever need. Works as a basic OBD-II reader, but then also has the Manufacturer Specific codes, which most generic readers DO NOT. MANY guys have the AE, and its great. I have one, and its been very useful when I have...

    Warranty win

well, the biggest problem is, we dont get to work with the mechanics anymore. We have to deal with the "service writer" and they are PURELY by the book. They also couldnt find a glowplug if the thing bit them everyday for a week. Ever notice they dont call them mechanics anymore. THey are...

    Fuel Gauge

That is little!!! How can you see it?! :D :D :D I just picked up an autometer Cobalt pressure guage for my upcoming fuel upgrades. 17 dollars it is NOT!

    Overdrive light flashing

You need to get a code reader and pull the codes. Your tranny is mad about something, and unless you find out what that code is and get it fixed ASAP, you risk destroying your tranny.

    Warranty win

What dealer gave you the run around? I would like to know. There is not a MOD on the market that would deny you a warranty repair for a CPS failure. That rates up there with denying an Alternator failure for having a lift kit. (dont laugh, I've seen it)

    MORE QUESTIONS ABOUT MY POWERSTROKE

I think they should know. The "year" thing has to do with the 96-97 trucks. There was a transistion period. Im not aware of a transition period on the 466 sensors. Also, dont be suprised if its not blue. It could also be black, but most ppl have been getting blue.

    MORE QUESTIONS ABOUT MY POWERSTROKE

I dont understand the question. The 7.3 liter powerstroke is a t444e. The DT466 is about 7.6 liters, its bigger. The new 6.0 is about 366 cubic inches, but its still the V-8 design. The new 6.0 does not share sensors with the older trucks. Whn you go in, you will ask for a CMP (or...

    MORE QUESTIONS ABOUT MY POWERSTROKE

DT466 is the 466 cubic inch inline six cylinder diesel engine. T444 is the 444 cubic inch V-8 diesel engine. International used to use the "DT" to designate diesel engines (they also made gas for awhile). When they dropped the gasser line, they quit putting D in front of the T. If the 444...

    Blue CPS

The "test" is to put an osciliscope on the CPS wire and get a baseline of what the stock output looks like on the screen. Then install the "new" cps and repeat. Look for the obvious changes. Pulsewidth, signal strength, and noise. You will also need to PHYSICALLY mark the crank and use a...

    Power steering issues!

The "hard to steer while stopped" problem is VERY common even on trucks without reman pumps. Its because the powersteering pump also powers the brakes. Ford decided brakes take priority over steering, and as such, you cant turn the wheel and ride the brake. Ford's response is this is...

    MOBIL-1 Synthetic ATF warning!

well, the deal is, if you can find Mobil-1 Synthetic ATF, and it DOES NOT say Mercon-V on it, then your OK and you can use it. PROBLEM IS! Mobil-1 has been found to be selling the "multi-vehicle" stuff in an IDENTICAL bottle to what we have always been buying. Which was the silver bottle...

    MOBIL-1 Synthetic ATF warning!

Just FYI, it appears the MOBIL-1 has changed their Synthetic ATF. It is now DUAL RATED, Mercon-V compatible. By the Ford manual, it is NO LONGER compatible with our 4R100 transmissions. You may still be able to find the original bottles that are just MERCON rated, but read the label...

    Wanted 4" downpipe needed?????

Summit has a complete 4" system, aluminized, for like 299 and 8 bucks to ship. Its a STEAL. And I cant think of anyone who was disappointed with it. I just picked up an AFE 4" stainless for 360 and like 8 bucks shipped. I can find out if that was a one time deal I got, or if its a current sale.

    Cooling Systems Questions

Just for point of reference. Our MAP sensors on our trucks (and I think the Exhaust backpressure sensor too) is calibrated for psiA. You'll notice that if you hook a scan tool to the truck with the engine off, the sensors read about 14.7psi

    Cooling Systems Questions

Well, actually, the thermistant is not a true ON/OFF device. Its variable. It actually starts to open well before its rated temp. It should reach FULL OPEN at the rated temp. This way, "hot" coolant is allowed to slowly start escaping the system, to be replaced by "cold" coolant from the...

    Can anyone help????

The CPS sensor is a Hall Effect sensor designed to pick up small cutouts from a timing wheel bolted to the front of the camshaft. It should have 3 wires going to it. Ground, Power, and Signal Return. I hate to send you to "The other site", but this page gives a DETAILED explanation of the...

Broken sensor wires on '97 PSD

OUCH! 50 bucks? The part number I gave (same part by the way, just used on the coolant temp sensor instead of the throttle position sensor) should only have been like 20 bucks. But, yes, if the CEL went out, you most likely got it right.

    Can anyone help????

Have you inspected the "old" CPS's for physical damage? Earlier trucks (94-96) had a shim kit to keep the camshaft gear from striking the CPS. Its possible your new engine block is from an earlier truck? Have you tried a "broken" CPS in another truck? Perhaps its not the CPS, but a wiring...

Broken sensor wires on '97 PSD

Oh, and it *IS* oil pressure, but its HIGH PESSURE oil. I think its about 100 bucks from International. BUT, you dont need the sensor, just a new pigtail, as posted above.

Broken sensor wires on '97 PSD

Thats your ICP sensor. Looks like someone had a 10k mod and cut it out or something. Buy one of these: GM part number 12102748 Connector pigtail (incl. terminals) cut the OLD connector off, match the wires up, and solder the new pigtail on. The truck WILL RUN, but it will be on a...

    Which Exhaust?

4" Downpipe is the biggest you can get. What you do after the downpipe is up to you! Also think about how long you planning on keeping the truck. If less then 3 years, I would go aluminized. If longer, then go for the stainless. Even the cheap stainless is supposed to be better than OEM...

    !!

When you shim the fuel pressure regulator, you do put a little more load on the fuel pump. Its possible you had/have a bad connection somewhere, or the fuel pump is starting to die, or fuel pump relay is starting to flake out, or something. But, I think you nailed the problem point, something...

I Got pulled over on Friday!

Urban Legend... :sorry: Cop can only write you up for what he witnessed. And "hot rod" parts are not illegal. Here in WA, they can pull you over and write you a ticket just for revving your motor. Its under the street racing laws, and "instigating" a race is a ticketable offense. But just...

    Navigation/Radio,etc - I'm confused ??????????

I have the Garmin Ique 3600, and I had to put a 256 in it to hold all the detail maps for the areas I wanted. You need a 1-gig or larger card to hold the entire US detail maps. A double-DIN unit *will* fit in our trucks, but you need to trim a little of the dash opening. Nothing major. I...

    When train horns go bad

Bigger is always better. I have a set of cheapo ebay 4-chime horns (commonly called the "yankee horn" ) and they are LOUD! But its a piercing loud, higher pitched than true train horns. Small air compressor, and a 5 gallon tank, and an electric air valve and your done...
