spaghetti, no more (new amp rack installed)

any location where there are large amounts of fabric, padding, and foam directly in front of the sub is going to be less than ideal...but the reality is that there isn't really a better solution in our trucks. Us extended cab guys are even more out of luck.

    Pics of truck now.

what kind of lift is it?

Kudos to one of Fords Designs

batteries are in the back for weight balance. i had two e36 m3's, which have the batteries in the trunk. small price to pay for the 50.1/49.9 weight balance those cars have. ford and GM probably haven't figured that one out yet, which is why there is no decent american sedan. so you think...

so how does the armrest come apart?

flushed sail panel tweeter mounts, components install, dailup run and hide

mounted up in the truck: next up was the crossovers and running new wire to the doors: i'm still waiting on my speaker adapter plates to come in before I can finish it up. I also want to put a little sound deadening on the back wall, so that'll come tomorrow. look for more...

flushed sail panel tweeter mounts, components install, dailup run and hide

alright, here's the system specs: current: sony headunit, autotek 900.4 stealth series amp, ED 11ov.2 sub in a custom box. in progress: CDT EF-61 comps in the fronts, peel n' seal roofing material as sound deadening on the back cab wall. this is gonna be it for the truck stereo...

    Batteries, Revisited

my point was that sears probably did stop carrying optima, but maybe not because of bring backs. if he said optimas were junk because they're gel cells, i wouldn't be surprised if he was wrong/and/or lying about why the stopped carrying them.

    Batteries, Revisited

fair enough bro. i also wouldn't be surprised if his spiel about bring-backs was just a load to get you to buy whatever he dished out next, especially given the fact that he pushed agm on you with optimas actually being agms. in my experience, optimas are commonly regarded as excellent...

    Batteries, Revisited

ok then. my point is i just dont think that yellow tops are really the correct application for our trucks.

    Batteries, Revisited

so let me see if i understand you used a deep cycle battery in a starting battery application, and it failed, and you're calling optimas bad batteries?

Pros and cons of Manual VS Auto

if you can afford a badass auto tranny and to rebuild it as necessary, they're cool enough. i think i could appreciate the very low effort cruising with an auto. the 1.5' throw legpress that is my clutch pedal can get old in stop and go traffic. what i do not like about autos (aside from $4k...

    high idle switch

mine engages the ebpv and ramps up the idle pretty darn quick in cold weather. maybe a minute?

someone take me to school on bilstein shocks and part numbers

here's your answer. the BE5-2818 and BE5-2819 are HD shocks, NOT 5100s. 2819 has been superseded by the C296. these shocks are valved at 298/36 and 244/42 front and rear. they will work with up to 2" of lift in the front, and 0" in the back. the 5100 part numbers that fit that application...

yeah, i was gonna give the east office a call when i got off work. just wondering if anyone had dealt with this or run across the discrepancy before.

someone take me to school on bilstein shocks and part numbers

right. thanks, but still doesn't answer my question at all. bilstein lists the same part number for the HD shock and 5100 shock. the HD shocks do not feature active valving, whereas the 5100s do. is the F4-BE5-2818-H0 an active valving shock, or not?

someone take me to school on bilstein shocks and part numbers

alright, my stockers are totally trashed, so after searching it seems like a majority of the people are very happy with bilsteins. now, my question: the bilstein website application guide for the HD's, here: Bilstein, where you then click here: http://www.bilstein.com/303truckssuvs.pdf...

    Leather Steering Wheel Peeling

i too rock the wheelskin. pretty labor intensive to get it on there, but the result is nice. i had the superbusted vinyl piece on my truck. here's a pic i took while putting in my chip...quality is lacking but you can kinda see the wheel. good luck, paul

Unit hub bearings, axle shaft seals....?

yeah, i really dont know what the heck is going on now. It all started with a sound I'd hear while coasting. Best desciption I could think of would be a branch with dry leaves stuck under the truck dragging on the ground. After hearing the sound I started investigating to see if I had any...

Unit hub bearings, axle shaft seals....?

well durn, cuz i've got about 1/4" if not more. If i grab the end of the stub shaft inside the hub and reach around and grab the u joint i can wiggle the thing all over the place. i hope i haven't trashed the bearing race on the stub shafts... is it likely that i've also damaged the hub seal...

Unit hub bearings, axle shaft seals....?

i've got an electronic maintenance manual in addition to the weaksauce chilton's manual, and actually spent about 3 hours trying to figure out the exact assembly before i even posted. thanks for the bold red text though. My question was if the axle shaft bearing within the unit hub should...

Unit hub bearings, axle shaft seals....?

yeah, i know that. i was looking at the timkens. anyway, i just did a little more investigating, and now have a new set of questions: if i remove my lockout hub thing, i can move the stub end of the axle shaft around maybe 1/8" inside the unit beaing. this in turn moves the steering...

Unit hub bearings, axle shaft seals....?

Fellas, I've got two shot unit hub bearings at 140k. I'm looking to snag a set of timken replacements. i have some questions: I noticed while noticing that the axleshaft had up and down play inbetween the knuckle and inner C, I found that I have an oil leak out of the axle tube on the...

    CCV Mod

i'd lean more towards oil in the intercooler reducing its efficiency being the biggest factor, then oil causing boots to pop being the next largest factor.

    DP Tuner and MPG

Realize too that the chip means you will have to spend money on gauges and tranny mods. Its not just the price of the chip, its a lot more than that. The added stress will start bringing other problems to the surface too. Just be ready for that:sweet You'll love it though. The difference...

    Zoodad Mod?

don't go apeshnit with the cutting if you have an open element filter. Soaking paper with rain water = not good.
