    Motorcycle Transmission Problem

I'm looking at replacing the Vulcan with a Yamaha. I've had 6 of them and never had a problem. My 87 Venture I had for 11 years and put almost 50k on it. I like the looks of the FJR 1300A. I can get a new one for about 11,500 and it looks like a fun but comfortable ride. Jim

    Motorcycle Transmission Problem

Yes it is. I trust the guy and he has done many of them with exactly the same symptoms. I think he gave me a high price just to cover his hind side. What ever it is, it is. He's going to clean the carbs and a few other things while he is at it. No, I am not the first owner but my son was. Rear...

    Motorcycle Transmission Problem

I think you are correct. Found out what was wrong. The low gear mates with another gear, not sure which one, with elongated cogs (or as you called them, dogs) into matching holes in the other gear. What happens is both the cogs and matching holes round off and will drop out under heavy torque...

    Motorcycle Transmission Problem

I've got all winter. Might just give it a try myself. I have a friend that could bail me out if I run into too much problem. Jim

    Motorcycle Transmission Problem

Thanks for the replies. I was hoping for an adjustment but I fear it is worse. Now to find an honest shop. I think I'll leave this one for the pro's. Jim

    Motorcycle Transmission Problem

I ride a 1999 Kawasaki 1500 Vulcan that I have put 4000 of the 7500 miles on it. Not a hot rodder. 2 days ago it slipped out of 1st gear for just an instant and clunk right back in. It did it only twice and didn't think much of it until tonight. Popped out and right back in with a clunk about 4...

    Loud injector noise

Probably sucking a ton of air. Air in the fuel will make the injectors really talk. Hutch pre pump mod will probably take about 75% of the noise away. Worked great on mine. Jim

    Oil Pan Replacement

If its leaking, yes that can be done. I have also heard that a fiberglass patch will work great also and then do a POR-15 over that. I'm hoping mine won't get to that point. Jim

    Oil Pan Replacement

I have a 2001 that was rusted bad. Nothing rusted through yet but I did a POR-15 recoating last week and it looks great. I understand many have saved their pans by treating and coating with the POR-15 treatment. It is supposed to be good for a long time. Job took about 1 1/2 hours under the...

    no more mercon?

To correct a previous post in this thread, Mark Kovalsky is no longer with Ford and is back on line. I personally asked him if the new stuff was OK to now use and this is what I posted in another thread on this site. There is an expert named Mark Kovalsky that I met on line years ago that was...

    MOBIL SYNTHETIC ATF ?????

There is an expert named Mark Kovalsky that I met on line years ago that was a Ford tranny engineer. He no longer works for Ford but he says its now OK to use the new Mobil 1 because it has been reformulated. He has more knowledge about the 4R100 than anyone I have read. I would trust his...

    7.3L getting poor gas milage

Actually you can still get that much in the tank without "Pooning" it. It just takes a lot longer. I agree with this poster, do the "Hutch" mods as well. Jim

    Towing in overdrive

8500 lbs and there is no other way to go than OD for the flat highway. 50 mph on rolling hills I knock it out of OD if it is shifting in and out. They are made to tow in OD. Jim

Powerslot Rotors, Hawk LTS Pads...couple pics and review

I was a little luckier than you were on this. I found my mistake before reassembly when I did my ART's. First rotors I had ever replaced that had a driver or passenger side. I think you will love the brakes. Keep in mind that if sometime down the road your rotors feel like they may be...

Having fat friends makes you fat???

Looks to me that diesel exhaust causes people to gain weight. Most of the posters, including me are over weight. And it looks like it is totally provable using their scientific methodology. :) Jim

    Reese Quick Slide

I do not use grease on the slides and yes mine has rollers on it but they are fairly useless. I don't see them doing much to make it slide easier. Jim

    7.3L getting poor gas milage

Less pressure on the go pedal. Not trying to be funny here but if you want better than the 16, keeping the RPM at less than 2000 will help a lot. Jim

Sounds like you need to change the fuel filter to me. Jim

    Reese Quick Slide

Mine does not move very easy unless forced. I move it with the trailer brakes and it moves easy and smooth that way. I had the same questions that you had about knowing if it was locked in right or not. I discovered that the cogs that lock in the square holes did not penetrate very far. I filed...

    hutch mod

Like has already been said, it eliminates air in the fuel. I did mine before the kits came out and it is an easy fix and it works. I have the pre pump mod. Jim

To chip or not chip...that is my ????????

Do you need a chip or programmer? The honest answer to that is no. But, if your kids are all well fed and cared for and cash flow is good, I would highly recommend either a chip or programmer, just for fun if nothing else. The "I'll get 2 mpg more with a chip" statement is the excuse that you...
