    Max Pulling Power with Reliability

I think the best way to protect the engine is to install a pre turbo pyrometer and not let the exhaust temp exceed 1200 F or so. They will cool down a lot if you let them rev a bit. Jim

Rusty, leaky oil pan fix!! Interesting!!

On the truck, the engine has to be removed. $1800-$2000 job. A few have figured out how to get the pan off without removing the engine but its a big job. Jim

    Any Bikers?

I had a 1999, 1500 and that had a 4 speed tranny. It was OK but a 5 speed would have been a lot more user friendly. @ 7500 miles the first gear dogs were worn and I needed 2 gears and the shifting fork replaced. Kaw left out a shim in the tranny that caused the dogs not to fully mesh. I don't...

    Aluminum Transmission Pan

No, the 2 oils are 100% compatible. The factory actually mixes synthetic and dino ATF, its called blended.

Question Short bed and 5th wheel

I have a short bed and fifth wheel with a 12" extended pin box. I also have a Reese slider that has only been used a couple of times in the past 9 or 10 years or so. Both times I have used it was for extra caution and probably could have gotten by without it. With a longer (21") pin box, I...

    Plug in or not?

It was between 15 - 20 degrees at first and when I changed to Delvac 1 synthetic, I haven't plugged in unless its going to be zero. It starts even below that temp without plugging in but I think it is easier on the starting system if its a bit warm. If it needs to be plugged in at 30 - 40...

    recycling internal parts morality

I totally agree with you on this one. I was to a point that I would have considered myself a wheel chair candidate. I can now walk 3 or more miles now with no pain. I am totally thankful for my metal knees. Other parts hurt but not my knees. :) Jim

    recycling internal parts morality

I think this is a great idea. I have both knees replaced and I'm not sure what they are worth but I know it is several thousand dollars. It does seem a shame we don't give them to another if we are not going to use them anymore. I don't think any of my biological parts will be of any use to...

Question Differentials just changed with Mobile 1.. input??

The rear end calls for synthetic. Probably because it works very hard and produces a ton of heat. For the other parts that you are changing, it will make them last a lot longer. Jim

    Miners Being Rescued In Chile

Praise God they are all out. I think the real heroes here are the 6 EMTs that went down to help the men get ready for the trip out. I found it interesting that the President of Chile was there to greet all 33 men and the 6 rescuers. That was a long day for him and his wife. Jim

Question 2 stroke oil in diesel fuel?

I've been using it for about 4 or more years now at an oz per gal ratio. Not sure how much it helps but from everything that has been said, it is a necessity with the new low sulfur fuel. For what the parts cost that the oil lubricates, it is a good investment. Jim

Ever feel you overpaid for a college class?

I would like to take an opposing view on this subject of easy college. The colleges I went to were not easy. I did have a few classes that were easier than others but even the easy ones were good classes where I learned a lot. I found the tech classes I had at our community college here in...
