    this can be a damned if you do, damned if you dont thing.....with the miles you have and the condition of the fluid it could cause an issue when you change it, the new fluid wont have any of the "particles"...."consistency" that your old fluid has and the trans/converter is used too...then again...

    you should be putting the shackles on the front and they should have given you spacers for the rear of the spring, thats how mine came, would think it'd be the same.

    gotta watch tryin to unbolt the upper tie bar on these trucks, i've tried it in for repairs before and run into spot welds down the rad suppt a bit, then i fixed another one once and all it had were bolts. I'm in the auto body biz btw, i'm guessin that would help the cause of removal? fenders...

    you basically allready know, if that trans guy is handing you a busted flexplate, thats no fuggin good, there are only a few things that'll cause that, with your miles and what you tow it all adds up,

    yes the cab needs to come off to yank the motor, a couple guys on here have pics of it being done i think, theres also a pic of a 6.0 getting its cab lifted off in this months "diesel power" magazine, its not as much of a pain as you may think, def sucks, but is awful nice to get to everything...

    not something you want to attmept if you've never done any internal engine work, like daveben said, motor out, crank out, and while you have everything out it would be crazy not to go through the shortblock, not like your gonna have the cab off your truck any time soon after that! at least...

    a billett converter may help, but it wouldnt prevent it, just one of those things that may happen if you tow allllllot and high miles dont help either, heat's heat unfortunately, and it can be a mofo.
