Wish I had thought of it sooner (diesel fuel)

It just hit me today. I have my 3 parked Peterbilts out here on the yard.

They have been parked since Sept/Oct of last year.

I have sold one of them and noticed today that it has a 1/2 tank of
fuel in one tank and 1/4 tank of fuel in the other.

So I got the siphon pump out and filled the PSD up all the way (had a half tank) and pumped out about 22 more gallons.

I probably have about 150 gallons sitting in the other two trucks combined.

I also got a free plastic 55 gallon drum today from my driver's brother.

I do have one question about the drum. It had about a half gallon of cleaning acid in it. I drained all of the acid out and then washed the inside out with water a couple of times.

I plan on putting the diesel fuel in it, will the acid residue left behind cause any harm?????

You should be fine with the barrel as long as you got it rinsed out good, then just let it dry out... I do it alot, but of course I don't know what kind of acid there was in the barrel... looks like you can jump on the fuel strike banwagon for the PSD for a while anyhow

That is a good idea to use some $$$ you've already spent and save some while you're at it -- just think what you paid for it several months ago vs what you'd have to pay now!


And I think as long as you get the barrel good and clean - you should be okay

water and some baking soda to neutralize any acid, then just water to clean out the baking soda.

i do it all the time at work after we finish a barrel of cleaner, works great!

Check on the acid cleaner before you do too much and see if it can be neutralized that way and no long term problems? The web should have info on it and WHIMIS will as well.

somewhat off topic.....

there are inserts for big truck tanks that prevent syphoning (or at least slow it down). might be something to look into for your rigs bama, with current prices trucks around here are getting syphoned. we have sold about 100 of the inserts in the last month to victims.

The drum was completey dry this morning and showed no signs of remaining acid.

Filled it up with 40 gallons of BLACK GOLD out of one of our parked Pete's.

About 45 gallons is what I can get in it and still be able to move it around fairly easy.

Got it strapped to some appliance hand trucks.
