Hey Smokey, I'll bet you have never tried to pick up a Warn 1200 or 16.5 K winch with the reciever mount have ya? Depending on where and HOW you are stuck it may be a problem... Just something to think about B 4 you go out and spend your $$$.

I've thought about that already. It doesn't matter how well you can pick it up, it's how well can you handle it on a slick road thats ice covered on the side of a mountain. That would be around a 160 pound chunk to move. I'm 6 tall 245 and that would be a problem for me carrying it on ice and snow by myself. If I had it mounted permanently, then the winch would have been no use to me as I needed it on the rear.

I believe the hitch mount is still the way to go but may have to consider a smaller winch. In my situation i wasn't dragging the earth with me just no traction hanging in the ditch. Regardless the weight will still be around at least 130 ponds at a minimum with a 9K winch.

What is the smallest winch that would work for my situation that I was in?

What else has anyone confronted on dealing with a winch? That's refferring to one that has a cable and not the one sitting in the truck.
