I have the opportunity to get a E40D out of a 93 e-350 gas 350 motor. Will it fit in my 95 7.3l diesel f-superduty?

are the trannies actually different from gas to diesel? i thought the toilet seat at the back of the diesel was to fit the ford tranny bell.

No, I think that they have different bolt patterns. Not to mention the major difference is gear ratios. Between gears the engine will fall on its face. Diesel trannies have to be closer ratio. Our max rpms are about 1/2 of a gasser. The gear ratios are completely off.

You will end up smoking the gas trans. It will never hold up to the engine torque even if the bolt pattern will match. A Diesel trans is built for the engine torque (tight shifts). I tryed to use a gas trans on my old chevy diesel and it burned it right out in no time.

ok lets clear the air here.the E4OD is actually a gas job tranny with a different bell housing and converter for the diesel.the internals are the same for gas and diesel.wich is why our trucks chew them up.they arent tough enough for a diesel, especially a slightly modded diesel.you can swap cases and run it if you want.

the reason you smoked the tranny behind the chevy diesel is most likely cuz it was junk when you stuffed it in there or you used the gas job 3 bolt converter instead of the diesel 6 bolt converter.the 6.2/6.5 uses the same TH400 that was used behind the gassers.just a different converter, same with the E4OD.diesels use a lower stall speed converter than a gasser cuz the diesel doesnt have to rev to build power like a gas job does.
