Why do these engines "lope" on a cold start? Mine seems to be doing this a bit more this year and its not even really cold yet, just wondering if theres a fix, or if i have something goin south

Thanks

My 6.0 loped on cold morning starts. I changed the weight of the oil to 5 W40 and that stopped the loping. I used a syn oil from Shell, Rotella T for diesel engines.

see my thread on HPOP
first think you do, is change the oil.
The anti-foam additives may be depleted

I had thot about synthetic but i heard that you shouldnt switch to synthetic on a high milage engine. yes i would tend to agree with ya but i only have 1000-1500 miles on the oil change. but i suppose it be the culprut

You can run synthetic on any engine that is broken in. Milage is not an issue.

Rottella 5-40 fixed that issue for me many years ago.;tu

You might have another prob besides oil. I had some sensors go bad on mine. Thinner oil will def help though. Id try that first since it would be cheaper than a sensor. I changed to rotella 5w40.

Switch to 5 W40 and you will cure your case of the lopes. I run this weight oil year round. It has the same summer weight (40) and a lower winter weight(5). It makes the starts very easy and smooth. I got the last few gallons at WalMart for about $19..00 per gallon for Rotella T 5 W40 syn oil. That is a good deal.
