i have 56k miles on my 04' 6.0 6spd. i tow about 3000 lbs. daily. the only problem i have had so far is the egr needed to be replaced around 35k. NOW last week while driving home, after sitting at a light for a minute, while pulling away the truck fell on its face, no throttle response at all, looked in the mirror and saw a huge trail of white smoke, couldnt even see my trailer. this lasted for about 2 blocks before finally clearing out and regaining power. the next day while starting the truck i noticed a loud banging sound. it continued for the next couple days everytime i started the truck. i took it to the dealer and all they could find was a code for the #7 glow plug, thats what was causing the banging sound. they replaced the plug along w/ the harness and never did find the cause of the white smoke/ power loss. they also updated the intake piping and boots. when i left the dealership i noticed they left a note in my truck saying that they updated the injector programming and now the injectors would cycle for about 30 sec. after the truck is shut off everytime. sure enough you can hear the injectors making noise for a while after the truck is shut off everytime. has anyone ever heard of this? they told me that all the 6.0s that come in will be updated like this, they said it helps to clean the injectors. anyone have any ideas about the white smoke/ power loss? im afraid the headgasket may be getting ready to let go:confused:

Can't help with the white smoke and powerloss, but my truck was just updated with the new injector programming and I was told the exact same thing you were: all 6.0's will get it done to help the injectors run better.

was it pretty much white smoke or a lite bluish haze? i had same thing 3-4 times over the course of arguments w/ dealerships before i found one who knew what they were doing and what needed fixing. it was head gaskets, injectors (8) glow plug harness among other things, egr too!! i would recommend as texex did and as i did - find a dealership who will listen and knows what to look for. i would also get the coolant tested for exhaust leaks - that will tell you your answer.
as for the injector reprogram: as texex said, does it just cycle to pump them clean? for a longer better starting engine? texex: thanks for update:thanks
