my 06 has been doing this for about 2 weeks, the dealer replaced the egr valve but it still does it. i have searched the forum and its mentioned often but no mention of what the cause is.there is no loss of coolant, oil,or power and the truck is stock except for 4" exhaust from the turbo back(no cat).has anyone found out what causes this?

White smoke

White smoke is usually due to coolant in the exhaust stream - ie steam. It may be a small leak right now, and not much coolant accumulates in the intake until it has been sitting a while. You can pull the EGR valve and see if it is shiny (wet). sometimes if the coolant system is pressurized and the back end is raised, you can see moisture inside the hole where the EGR valve sits.

If you want to get under the truck after it has cooled, you can look at the clamp that connects the exhaust Ypipe to the EGR cooler. It is at the back of the engine, near the top, just below the intake manifold. If you see moisture on that clamp, you have a leaking EGR cooler.

Bama - if you've been through a bunch of EGR coolers, you might suspect a leaking head gasket overpressurizing the coolant system, should'nt have gone through that many coolers!

The 1st. EGR cooler went when my truck was completely stock and before the warr. was up.

The 2nd. one went out about 15,000 miles later and after the warr.

The 3rd. one went out during it's 12/12 warr.

The 4th. is still in there, but I have a block-off plate between the EGR cooler and the up-pipe and my SCT tuner deletes the EGR valve.

Head studs & new HG were done 2 years ago. :sweet

Have you ever run her without the SCT (with the blockoff)? I was wondering if the blockoff would set a code, without the SCT in the loop.

Mine suddenly started this white smoking from each take off. Brought it to a "friend" of mine who is a diesel tech at the dealer and says this is a common fix on the 6.0's....................
Ended up being the CHRA (center housing rotating assembly)
part # fmc5c3z9g489aarm on turbo and the drain tube assembly part # fmc6c3z9t515a.(larger drain tube)grand total..... 1287.00 my price 100.00.

NO SMOKE

Check to see if there is oil seeping from the turbo down pipe (exhaust) sleeve.
