one more thing, I had some "alignment kit" installed a couple years ago that everyone said was required to "fix" something Ford didnt do right. I had been told it was a one time thing but one shop I called recently said they might have to do it again. Are they trying to pad the bill or does it have to be redone periodically (or did I get screwed the first time)??

aka bushings to set the caster and camber, they come in fractions of degrees to keep your tires at the correct angle of attatck fore and aft as well as top to bottom
4 wheel alignment on a f series, is a NO
unless they break loose the spring shackles at the axle and correct any dog tracking, which you said you dont have.
both od my alignments were just a toe adjustment
I said TWO alignments on three trucks,
one on the 92 an done on the 02,
got a free one on the last trip to texas hit a big hole on I-30 now we are straight again
