HHG doesn't pay by mile, it pays by weight, pick-up and delivery time and always has a 2100 lb. minimum. My question would be under what authority are you doing this move? Do you have a DOT number? Do you have a moving license? Is the truck and trailer registered commercial? Does it and trailer have a recent DOT inspection? Fuel permits, temp. or permanent? Do you have a medical examiners certificate? Do you know how to do logs? Will you have all the right paperwork if you hit a scale? There are more than a few things to consider. Like fines. Or being put OOS.

+ Are you covered if you lose it somewhere and wreck the whole rig/trailer. Your insurance of course would cover your property but what about the contents you're moving for the client??? I would suggest they contact a mover since the distance is so great. If it was just a couple hundred miles, maybe, but not cross country. If it is a small amount of stuff? Check out, Apartment Movers | Full Service Movers | Moving Relocation Services | MiniMoves, a full service moving company My wife works for one of the bigger movers and she refers customers to them when their weight is less than 1/2 the company minimum of 1000lbs. I had her run the numbers for you and 1000 pounds came to $1300. You could assume a cost near that rate for each 1000 you are shipping. Also, on weights this low you need to be very flexible on dates.

Owning or doing business in California is crazy. Years ago, I started a company named Redding Air Tours, and bought a Cessna 210 and started flying people around. I also did some instructing. When liability insurance went up to $1,000,000 I decided to close the company. Also lawyers have very deep pockets, and somehow passed a law that if a past student was in a plane crash, and that pilot stated that he crashed because of something I did not teach him 20 years ago, he could sue me. So I stopped instructing.
Regulations, and fees are killing the small companies, trucking as well as other types of companies.
