What is the Standard industry Gear ratio

I noticed w this new truck I am getting that on the description its 373 gear.. on the spec out 355 will I be happy w that Pulling 21k?

Look at the rear end for a tag that has a code for the ratio. Tell us what is is and we can tell you the ratio.

The spec is saying 355 that is probably what’s in it since this is a brand new truck. Pulling the kind of weight you’re talking about in my opinion that’s gonna be a little too high

I have owned a 2011 F-250 6.7 with a 3:55 and currently have a 2016 F-350 with a 3:31. I much prefer the 3:31 for pulling our 14,000 lb 5th Wheel over the 3:55. The higher ratio was always trying to shift down into the next lower gear. I also must say that my '11 got about 2 miles per gallon better fuel mileage however! This is also a long bed vs the '11 with a short wheelbase.

Thanks for your responses.. I now own the truck.. very impressive over my 2013 SRW.. I guess Ill wait it out to see how it pulls.

If your pulling 21,000 LB, you will need the 3.73 or better yet a 4.10. The higher the number the lower the gears are.

So.. Would it not be so (asking as a question) if my 2013 had 20" rims with 3.73 gear .. and my 2017 has 17" rims with 3.55 that the gear ratio would be about the same just in rim size alone using OEM tire sizing?
They would not have changed any gearing in the trans between 2013 to 2017 assuming?

The rim size doesn't matter. It's the overall height of the tire. As an example I had 24" rims on my Expedition but the overall tire height was 28". About the same height as the tires on my grandfather's F150 with 17" rims. He had more sidewall than I did.

I don't know about the trans gearing. I can't imagine there being much difference since it seems like most of the drivetrain was mostly carried over. Just with more power.
