most TRANSMISSION REPAIR shops want you to run the old fluid...
they make more money REPLACING AND REPAIRING trannsmission than
they do FLUSHING the tranny !

would you run the same oil 100k miles in your ENGINE w/out change ????

you want it to last, you do the service and you follow the maint.
intervals.

anybody know anything about greasing the u jounts and such... i would like to look into this as i have close to 40k miles.

also... im gonna get at changing my trans and Xfer case fluid soon... ive got the 6speed manual... thatll be fun.

only the front 1/2 shafts have grease fittings on 'em.

nothing too diffecult to do...just need the grease gun.
turn the 1/2 shafts til you can see the grease fitting
@ the steering knuckle.

grease the pitman arm & steering control arms while youre
under there...

OK, I think I have the oil I want to use.

Wal-Mart had the 5qrt. jug for 9.27 (Shell Rotella T 15/40)

Gonna check and see what the local FleetPride Truck Parts has it for tomorrow.

Also gonna get a Fumoto oil drain valve, the HFCM Water Separator Drain Plug Upgrade, and a 36mm socket for the oil & filter caps.

That Fumoto valve is the best thing I ever had, warm the truck up slide Your pan under flip the valve, and by the time you change the filter its done, flip the valve back and pure in the new oil.;tu;tu;tu

First step just taken to doing my own oil changes.

Just ordered the Fumoto F111N and a couple of add ons.

Welcome to the World of "Customer Performed Maintenance"

FWIW ? I bought a 25 X 36" drip pan (WM) and bolted a grab handle on both ends. Put the drain pan on It, slide it under the truck and open the Fumoto. While the oil drain is going on, I do the other Under the hood checks and change the oil filter. I also check all the tire pressures (spare too):dunno

By the time that's all done.. close (wipe off) the Fumoto.. grab the drip pan and slide it out from under.. poor in the fresh oil. Done Deal.

If there's any drips or spills as you slide the drain pan out, the drip pan will catch'm.. not the driveway or garage/shop floor.

Joe

Wm, Auto Zone and the like, have a good Blitz brand, Drip Pan and an oil Drain pan (mentioned earlier ?) that will hold all the oil these PSD's hold. (It'll be FULL when yer done... be sure the poor spout cap is On and the vent cap is Open) (Been There, Done That.. whilst having a Brain Anomaly)
