In a van down by the river...

I'll try not to take offense....Still trying... Anyway, yes it has proper fuel, proper level & has been treated w/ additive for water. I get no trouble lights that would indicate a retrievable code. When it warms to full operating temp, it runs fine. When it has been run & sits for a couple hours it starts & runs fine. I assumed it was related to the cold weather (gelling) but it's starting to warm up & it's still happening. I can live with it if I have too but i don't want to damage anything else by doing so.

More and more that's sounding like you've got a crappy GPR.

Yeah, GPR and or possibly one or more bad glow plugs. Have you tried plugging in the block heater for several hours before a cold start? If so, what are the symptoms after doing that?

I believe you can unhook the ICP sensor and the PCM will force to a default mode. So, try unhooking the ICP and see what happens.

Thanks, I'll do some digging. As far as the heater, I only plug it in when temp gets below 20 degrees or so. I can say for sure if that makes a difference.

Just for grins and giggles, plug it in overnight and then give her a start in the morning. Let us know how she runs after doing that. Glow plug relay is a very common failure on our 7.3L PSD's and if yours hasnt been changed since new, it likely could be the culprit. Its located left of the fuel filter canister sorta.... looks like the old starter relays Ford used to hang on the fenders of the 60's and 70's vehicles. You can take a heavy duty screwdriver and short across both LARGE terminals on it for about 30 seconds to manually power up your glow plugs, have someone hit the key and see if it fires up better that way too.

It's plugged in, I'll let you know tomorrow. It starts fine, idle's fine- it just won't accept throttle under a load until it's good & warm. Thanks again.

I started it this morning after plugging it in last night. I took off after only letting it run a few minutes & it ran fine. It didn't load up & die.
