Right-Wing Conspiracy-Theory Diatribe follows:
I [thought I felt better]...
found a place about 15 minutes from the house has diesel for $2.01
I've been in there before, buying a Coke or a bag of chips, figured it was a contract pump (because the price is NOT advertized/posted). I asked them if that was with contract, or a 3-axle permit. Guy said nope, that's the everyday Joe walking in off the street price. I called b.s. He said because the sherrif dept, and two school districts fuel there, he's going through 10,000 gallons a week. So he gets a break from his fuel jobber.
-edit-
so I could go off on a right-wing, uber-conservative conspiracy-theory diatribe and get away with it..
because I'm SURE this guy isn't the only one in the area doing that much volume; he's a one-pump operation where a two-lane state highway and a county highway cross... somebody is getting hosed somewhere. There HAS to be station doing three times that volume in the "metro" area (all 80,000 people of it) and every station on my route to work is 38 to 60 cents higher per gallon? UPS buys fuel over by my old house, they're $2.38. FedEx fuels at Speedway by the hockey rink and that one is $2.42. RWL Sign Co is less than a mile away across the street from another Speedway and they're posted price is $2.58, and every other station north or east three miles is within a penny of that.
Now I AM calling bs.
