On the back side of the valve covers, attached with the valve cover bolts that actually have two threaded ends, is this metal bracket/thingie that is attached to those double threaded/headed bolts.
Do these things have a purpose?
And hopefully I have described them correctly, if not, I'll try again.

Thanks,

Mine has part of the intake attached to that -- between the rubber boot that attaches to the turbo and the other boot that goes to the air box is a section of metal 3" tubing.

I think I've got a picture of it hooked up...

Nope... not that thing, its at the very back of the valve cover. Its horse shoe shaped and about the size of one, but not near as heavy. I wish I could take a picture, but can't.

Its like it (the thingie) is there to protect something, but for the life of me I don't know what?:sorry

There was speculation a long time ago that maybe they offered some kind of protection when building the truck, but who knows? Some folks take them off, but mine get reinstalled every time. Cheers!

are you talking about the lifting eye in front of (left in pic) the breather mounting bracket?
That's how they hoist the motor in/out of place.

Nope, its horseshoe shaped. It basically sits on top of the rear sealing edge (but outside) of the valvecover. Sometimes they use stuff like that to put pressure on the valvecover between the bolts, but that's not what these do. Cheers!

Thanks!!! I put them back on too, but they didn't look like they did anything. But now I know that they don't really do anything

Thanks again!!!
