one would have to ask why they were looking at the head gaskets during a brake job....
could be a GOOD shop....or it could be one looking to bump up the ATP (average ticket price)...
an all too common practice in the industry.
'specially when the customer made no complaint....could be a good shop too that takes
care of its customers (but that, unfortunately, isnt the COMMON PRACTICE)
Everythings better with warranty where the wallets concerned.
assuming you have a shop that 1) can actually TROUBLE SHOOT
and diagnose problems (rather just an one that just rips and replaces
parts til they THINK theyve got it right) and 2) one that will fix it RIGHT
the 1st time.
100 bucks outta pocket seems easy to take when it comes to repairs
but when the truck is in the shop MULTIPLE times because someone
cant actually trouble shoot or diagnose problems (beyond using
a scan tool)....id easily give up more cash and pay the cost of repairs
to have the problem resolved RIGHT the 1st time (cause in the end
as they say you can pay 'em now or pay 'em later).
the cost of doing w/out, plus the time & aggravation of dealing w/
some of these service writers and techs is more "expensive" than
paying cash some times.
