The EGR valve will get clogged sooner or later and will have to be cleaned. That is why most unplug the EGR. It will stay closed and won't collect soot. It may throw a code and Check Engine Light.

a replacement egr valve will cost less than youll spend on the
welding alone, much less the labor to remove the egr cooler.

egr's can now be bought on ebay for less that 75 bucks EASILY,
it wont be long and theyll be handled by autozone and the likes...
(they may already be in the stores)....the dealer retail on the valve
is around 130 bucks...still less than a good welding job would cost you.

heres one for 46 bucks... EBAY NEW IN BOX 6.0L EGR

and BTW if youre gonna weld the egr cooler shut, youll need a set of THESE

'nother thing for someone to consider...if theyre STILL thinking
about welding the egr shut...i have no doubt in my mind that youll
be denied warrenty coverage (even under the 5yr/100k mile).

certainly i see SOME reason for doing it...its by and large the heart
of most problems...but unless i were prepared to handle EVERY repair
(i do my own work...but im not interested in risking having to pay
for disasterous repairs on my own).

ive got nearly 49k miles on my truck and i have had only the initial
egr replaced (and the reverse planetary gear recall) other than that
ive had NOT ONE SINGLE PROBLEM (knock on WOOD !)
