weird boost leak?

i would take the plenum hose with to make sure it all fits.

i think i used a 4" street fitting or something weird to make it all fit. or you could use a piece of 4" exhaust tubing and bulge it up/down accordingly.

what you are after is something like this-

the pressure gauge is nice but not needed. all yo need to do is pressurize the system a bit and you will find the leak.

ok i made the tool, cost me like $30 dollars. i put about 10 psi in the system and i have a leak coming from the pcv from the valve cover. does that mean a valve is not seated correctly?

no that means that you are pressurizing the valve cover through the connection from the CCV to air plenum.

plug the CCV tube or couple the tester to the turbo.

i think that 10PSI is too much. all you are trying to do is pressurize it to find some leaks in the intake system.

do not try to spool the turbo up. static pressure will help you find the leak if there is one.

its coupled to the turbo inlet. i can pressurize it but it loses pressure really fast and lots of air comes out the ccv from the drivers side valve cover.

it does not hold pressure, i also put soapy water all over the boots and no leaks.

bump the motor over. you might be getting blowby or something.

when you say boots, did you also check the ones on the intercooler?

remember, there are 16 valves under there. they will not all be closed. you WILL loose air. all you are trying to do is get air in there so you can hear it leaking. thnk about the valvetrain being open. some intake, some exhaust. all you are trying to do is flood the motor.

it will leak from somewhere. its not going to build pressure like an inner tube.

the air leaking through a valve will sound muffled, like a thud.

air leaking from a leak will sound like a hiss.

keep the pressure LOW. you will find it.

Seems you've made some headway here.. with the boot testing and all, but you still have 2 snapped off bolts, at a critical place, where soot is visible.. and shouldn't be.. that has to do with the the integrity of the turbo, and it's ability to build boost pressures, throughout the power curve(s), that the PCM will recognize as normal.

Yer call but.. Yer guna halfta R&R those 2 bolts.

If yer still pressure testing stuff ? Plug off the I/C charge tube boot.. where it connects to the "Y" pipe.. pressurize at the turbo intake horn.. Put about 10 psi to it.. if it doesn't bleed off... The Inter-cooler, and it's charge tubes & boots are Good. (soapy water thing again too)

I've already fixed the broken bolts off the turbo. In the morning im Goin to isolate the intercooler and pipes by capping the pipe before it goes into the y-pipe.

And there shouldn't be any leaks there at all, it should hold pressure. I have a vacuum pump for a/c systems. Could that help me in any way for any of these tests?

Hi. I took the weekend off to clear my head from this truck but I finally figured it out. I hooked up a fuel pressure gauge right after the pump and took it for a test drive, and as soon as I even began to boost, fuel pressure dropped to 20-30 psi. And truck started shaking and misfiring.

I think the problem is in the tank because I replaced this fuel pump with another working one 3 days ago just to rule out the fuel pump. So maybe pickup screen clogged or broken?

Well, that probably nails it.

If yer guna drop the tank, you might wana look into the "Hutch" & "Harpoon" Mods ?

That whole pick up set-up, by design, can use some improvement.

Also.. the fuel pump inlet fitting is known to leak air into the system. A piece of fuel hose, in it's place.. will fix that too.
