Not convincing at all, just people typing in a forum with no pictures or evidence. Being an electrician I heat pvc to bend it to desired shape and I know what kind of heat is required to bend or melt it. On a peice of 3" it takes more than 5 minutes of direct contact with a Milwalkee heat gun on its max setting before you can even begin to think about bending the pvc. Once it does reach the state of being plyable it must be bent by force, it does not disform on it own.

You wont come anywhere near the temps of a Milwalkee heat gun around your air intake.

not really "convincing",but here is the thread:

ford-trucks.com/forums/showthread.php?t=466154&page=2&pp=12&highlight=Plastic+ccv+coupling

ill try to find more, i know there are more out there.

Not only that, but isn't the CCV hoop/coupler made our of a plastic similar to ABS? I just realized this while cutting up a bunch of logs with my 16 horsepower Stihl 066 chainsaw with the 30" bar and .404 chip slinging chain (grunt noises...) :sweet (I know that was completely gratuitous, but it was SO much fun!

I guess I am sort of at a loss as to how it could get so hot out near the filter. I would think the paper filter would catch FIRE before ABS would melt (I, too, have field-bent piping, only, I used a propane torch to heat it up. It took forever, and was so hot, it blistered my skin instantly when I got stupid and touched it.)

Anyway, I do appreciate the information, I will keep an eye on it and let you know if I see any issues. A 3" coupler is a heck of a lot easier to come by than a piece of 4" exhaust pipe.

Oh, and Bryan, I did use a repair (slip) coupler so i did not have to file out the little ridge.

I am thinking about drilling and tapping the coupler for my filter-minder next.
