Soooo,,, because there are millions of people in L.A. and Frisco, common sense is doomed.

One of the funniest quotes I have from being in the Navy is this, "Common sense IS authorized." I think that one would apply for California.

I like that fact that some places, even in my hometown in Texas are banning smoking in resturaunts and bars. I like the fact that I can go out and have a few and go home not smelling like an ashtray. I don't go out much here because of that reason. I don't care if people choose to smoke and if it is allowed indoors at public places. It is nice however when it is not. If I don't like it then I will just choose not to go. Its that easy. Honestly, taking in a little second hand smoke once and a while probably isn't any worse than the amount of diesel exhaust that I take in when I roll around with the windows down.

On a related topic, a lot of the bars in Hawaii are trying to get the ban on smoking removed due to lost buisiness. I remember paying $5 for a beer and mixed drinks would be even higher. So now that people can't smoke at the bar, it gives them another reason not to go. Why go to a bar and pay huge amounts of money for drinks and then not be allowed to smoke? NOw you have to ask yourself, do I remove the ban and have a, probably small, group of people get mad but keep people in buisness? Its kind of a tough call and, as most things, go back to money concerns. What can you do in this situation? For the few that can't deal with the second hand smoke, just shut up and don't go there. Its that easy and its the choice that I make all of the time. You can't have everything you want so just deal with it when its not your way. Life is not fair.

Boy Bling, you opened a very controversial subject.

I do not smoke or drink alcoholic beverages.
If someone wants to drink or smoke, that is their business.
I want to eat at a restaurant that does not allow smoking.
I do not throw trash out my car or truck window, so people throwing cigarettes out their window is a bad thing.
I do not like having to pick up empty beer cans, bottles, cigarette packages etc. that has been thrown out a car window onto my front lawn.

There are considerate people and there are slobs. The slobs give smokers and drinkers a bad name.

I do not agree with the government forcing private business to ban smoking. If there is a need the money will talk. I must say agree with banning it in National Parks and beaches though. Not only is the smoke annoying when you are trying to be in nature, it poses a risk of forest fire, and results in litter. Last time I was in Yosemite it was packed with Japanese tourists chain smoking and leaving their butts on the ground.
