Some son of a gun stole my spare tire during my daughters wedding! Can you believe this crap! Anyway, it looks like they cut the cable with bolt cutters and just let that sucker drop. My question would be, can I just replace the cable somehow or do I have to replace the whole gear setup that appears to be bolted to the truck. any info appreciated.:cussing:

Ditto--that bloweth royally.-mad

If you do go the salvage-yard route, make sure you get the little key-lock doohickey that goes on the end of the winch crank to unlock the gear mechanism...

Maybe - maybe not - what year is your truck? On some of the older trucks - 2002 and older - there are a lot of reports of the cable just snapping and losing the tire while driving.

I had to drop my spare when working a trailer wiring issue. When I went to put the spare back up, it went halfway and got stuck. It wouldn't go up or down. All I could do is cut the cable and throw the spare in the back. That cable hoist thing is a POS!!!

go to your ford dealer and grab a new one, there is 3 bolts if i remember right?? its bolted to the frame, wedged between the bed and frame, once you pop the bolts out it comes out easy, if i remember right i paid 70 bucks for the assembly, mine was gone when i bought it, someone had cut it to get it out, lol...i refused to have that thing rollin around my bed, lol

IMO that lame. I've heard of tailgates with diamond plate linings being ripped off. They are a fortune to replace new.
