What's up guys. I have a curious question: I know it's good to let the truck idle for a few minutes before shutting off, to let the turbo cool down. How long should I give it to cool off?

How long does a conventional turbo timer give it to cool off? If anyone has a turbo timer (or just knows), the advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks y'all.

I let my truck cool down after pulling a load. In everyday operation I don't bother. Your 300° rule is valid and something I use when I cool down my turbo.

My truck has never cooled down to 300*unless the motors off. It sits at 400* at a idle.

I can't see a problem with using one. I think the better ones are adjustable OR you can set it to go off with your pyrometer.

Agreed. But the way I look at it, I can save money by sitting in my truck 2-4min and let it cool down...or spend $200+ so I could use that other time being on tv, computer, etc. Thats just my personal prefference. I know others may have the money to play around with and like the turbo timer....heck I even like it. I just dont want to spend the $$$ for it

Even when my truck has been running for a while and is at operating temps, my engine idles at a stable 300 degrees, and doesn't ever go below that until I shut it off.
What would y'all recommend? Rammertide07's suggestion of 2-4 sounds pretty close to what I do, and I definitely agree; I would rather sit for a couple minutes than spend $$$ on the part.

Well you've done opened up the engine respiratory as much as you can...sooo....the only other thing I would suggest doing is check your coolant level and making sure the intake is cleaned out. If it would just get down to 300* and no further I wouldn't worry about it. I have a 96 F250 and I shut it off all the time without letting it cool down (I didnt know any better). The turbo has 580,000 miles on it.

Your sig doesnt say anything about a chip. ( And after that list of mods I figured I would ask.)

Mine cools down ALOT quicker when I set it back to stock.

Just thought I would throw that out there incase you have a chip we don't know about.

And I'm all for the sitting there. ( I ain't rich either :lmao )
