Turbo sticking

i have a 04 f350 superduty i just bought. 154,000 miles. Truck runs great, but sometimes at take off the turbo lags a lot longer than normal, almost like its sticking. I notice this when im at a dead stop and stomp on the gas pedal. it wont spool until rpms get high. when driving under normal conditions its fine. how can i fix this? On the back of my intake filter housing there is a filter minder/restriction gauge thats broken so i unplugged it. i dont know if that matters or not.

You can leave the filter reminder unplugged. They are worthless as far as I can tell. Stomping on the "throttle" is kid's play. You should get on it by adding more and more throttle quickly. Stomping on the throttle does nothing to get the boost up. You have to get the turbo spinning before it will create boost.

for sale for a long time you may have to pull it off and clean
it up a little. 6.0 like to be worked and run hard.

X2..... mine is much happier and runs much better when I am running it as a daily driver on my ~60mi round-trip commute, than as a local grocery getter, pick up the kids...... Run it, but not abusive, and it will be a very happy truck.

So here is a dumb question... When is it required to change the filter???

I am thinking that the one in my truck is original (150K) although not really sure.

I change mine at about 20,000 miles. I drive on paved roads, mostly, so I don't get a lot of dust from dirt roads. I think 15,000 miles is the recommended service interval.

There is no service interval specified for the air filter. It is TOTALLY based on the filter minder position. These filter minders work just fine. Most people go well over 75k miles without enough restriction to warrant a filter change. These filters are designed to hold over 3 lbs of dirt.

Also, do not blow air backwards through them to clean them.

I went nearly 98,000 on my filter before the filter minder yelled uncle. Taking that thing out and putting in a new one was a bear. O'Reilly's had a Motorcraft filter for about $72.

Well, since I purchased the vehicle used, and not knowing when it was last changed, I think that I will just replace it. My truck has about 155K

Why not? $75 is cheap insurance. I believe the 3 pounds of dirt part, when I took out the old one, about 2 pounds fell out when I tossed the filter to the sidewalk.
