Numerous warranty issued with GM that they would not take care of or chose to ignore. Run-ins with service writer and just overall displeased with the ability to keep me "the customer" happy after the sale of the truck. Wanted to try something different this time and Ford was it. So here I am...

MINE DOES THE SAME THING WHEN I TURN OFF THE ENGINE I HEAR WHAT SOUNDS LIKE DRY BEARINGS AND SOMETIMES I CAN HEAR IT WHEN THE ENGINE IS RUNNING WITH THE HOOD UP,I CALLED 2 FORD DEALERS AND TALKED TO THEIR SERVICE REP AND THEY BOTH SAID IT WAS NORMAL.I THEN RAN INTO A FRIEND OF MINE WHO HAS THE SAME TRUCK AND AFTER IDLING FOR 20 MINUTES TURNED IT OFF AND IT DID NOT MAKE THAT NOISE!I AM TAKING MY TRUCK TO THE FORD DEALER TODAY SO A MECH.CAN LISTEN TO IT AND HOPFULLY LET ME KNOW IF IT IS A PROBLEM OR NOT.

oddly I'm from madison ct also. now i have a 2500hd gmc. i have always loved the look of the super duty but... they have had sooo much trouble in the past it made me nervous. have you had any trouble with your 6.4 or trans? and what do you get for milage? thanx

CRUISE CONTROL 60-65 MPH DASH READS 19-21 MPG.I HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS YET EXCEPT FOR THAT NOISE I WROTE ABOUT, BUT I TALKED TO 2 MECH.AND THEY SAID IT WAS NORMAL,THEN AGAIN I ONLY HAVE 2800 MILES ON HER AND I BROUGHT HER LAST AUGUST(2007).IM THINKING I SHOULD START USEING THE TRUCK TO SEE IF ANYTHING GOES WRONG.

light tapping noise in 08 6.4 f-450 dually
I am having some light tapping noise from my 08 6.4 when accelerating only. The truck runs great no issues at all. Is there any one else having this issue?

THIS 6.4 IS THE FIRST DIESEL I HAVE OWNED AND IT MAKES ALOT OF DIFFERENT NOISE'S THAT I NOR ANYONE WILL HEAR COMING FROM A GAS MOTOR UNLESS IT'S GETTING READY TO DIE.MY BROTHER IN LAW HAS A 7.3 AND IT IS FAR MORE NOISER THAN THE 6.4 ,I TRY TO LISTEN TO SEE IF IT MAKES THE SAME NOISE'S THE 6.4 DOES AND SO FAR IT DOES EXCEPT 5 TIMES LOUDER.THE ONLY THING I DONT HEAR IS THAT NOISE(BEARING NOISE?) IM GUESSING IS COMING FROM THE TURBO WHICH I AM TOLD IS THE WASTE GATE FLUTTERING WHEN I TURN OFF THE ENGINE.

I'm not sure if this will help, but my '08 6.4L makes a strange noise from time to time as well. Sounds almost like a slight grating or grinding noise. Also, when I turn off the engine, it will make a huffing sound like air rushing through a hollow tube. This only happens when the truck is attempting to go into regeneration mode, but my constant acceleration and braking prevent it from fully clearing out the diesel particulate filter. Try driving the truck for a short distance to warm it up, and then just park it in the driveway. Leave the engine running and wait for it to go into regeneration mode. You'll know when this happens, because your RPM's will go from like 700 to about 1100. When the truck finally returns to its normal idle speed, the DPF will be fully cleaned. Then try driving it around again to see if the noise is gone. Hope this helps.
