I was wondering if the 08, 6.4 diesels come with a factory turbo timer. Like the edge or bully dog module. It keeps the engine running after turning off the key to keep the turbo clean.

thanks

1st WELCOME ! 2nd...HAH ! <sorry i couldnt resist> !

Ford is not very supportive of ANY aftermarket modules.
the 6.0 & 6.4 are MUCH MUCH cleaner burning engines and really
do NOT do well when idled for extended periods of time.

the truth of the matter is IDLING leads to coaking & sooting of the
turbo, not cleaning of it.

idling after shutdown <for a minute or three> is intended to give
the changed for the EGT's to cool down & in the OLD days it was
intended to allow the "COOLER" oil to circulate around the hot
turbo bearings...

since ford doesnt deliver any of its superduty's w/ an alarm system
(and they need one) i would suggest that you install an alarm, that
has remote start capablity (which will also then include a programable
cool down time...assuming youve touched the alarm button before
you remove the key from the ignition switch).

idling more than 1-3min. is GENERALLY all thats required.

MOST alarms are made by the same company...DEI
they make viper & clifford

Directed Electronics - Security & Remote Start

i have the sst5900, 2way paging/confirmation (so if i send a
"command" via the LCD remote i get confirmation that the the
command was recv'd and the truck is started or shutdown)

the remote range is 1mile (line of sight)....the truck will
also periodically communicate w/ the remote to alert you if
there have been "zone" violations (door open, hit/bumped or
broken window)

the alarm also has starter interupt (if the alarm is tripped the
truck can not be started).

i like the remote start (turn the heat on before i shut the truck off
and ill have heat when i start it in the morning...air condition same way)

i have it programed for 15min of "remote start/run" time and 3min. of
"cool down" time.

1 year ago (feb 07) I paid 450 <including installation> for the
viper sst5900...ymmv, the alarm cost a dealer about 250 bucks.

check out ebay.... ill give you an idea of what any particular alarm
might cost a retailer....if you see "dealers" offering it for "buy it now"
youd probably be ok to assume that its slightly above cost.

if you can do the install yourself you might be OK to buy it off ebay...
but they you would NOT get the full warranty (up to 1000 dollar insurance
deductible re-imbursment if your truck is alarmed and STILL broken into) that
is offered by the better alarm mfg's...

the 99-current trucks are EASILY broken into...keyless entry (as delivered
by the factory) should NOT be confused as an ALARM !
