As far as headstuds, sooner or later you are going to need them. These trucks when pulling heavy weight, without a tuner, stretch the headbolts, thereby making the headgaskets leak and the EGR cooler also pops; with or without programs. It all depends on how you drive your truck. If you get up in the morning and hammer it until you go to bed at night, you're looking for trouble, even stock. Our looneys are safe. yes, this is from the same DJ that some of you may be thinking of. I found this and got to thinking. I pull lots of weight. Nothing overloaded tho. Could this be a source of my problems. Remember, already had surgery once. Now i am not tending to believe the dealer. Want a second opinion. Thoughts anyone.

test for combustion gases in the coolant...thats the sure way of knowing
youve got a head gasket leak...

I think he's trying to figure out whether the bolt stretch is an issue, or a scapegoat. Once you've got leakage it's a moot point. Unfortunately, I couldn't tell you. Now, here's an interesting question: The new 6.4 is basically a bored and stroked 6.0, right? If this is correct, then this new engine should just about stretch itself apart at an idle... unless something is different, or the studs really aren't the problem...

Ford knew they had a problem w/ the 6.0 headstuds and fixed it in the 6.4, makeing them longer and of a stronger alloy.
