I tried to leave my office and when I turned the key in my truck it just freespun. It's like the key isn't engaging the tublers at all so of course the truck won't start. HELP!

When you turn the key to the run position do you have all your electrical features? Radio,A/C-heater blower,windows,seats etc etc?

I don't have anything, whenever I turn the key it just spins to the stop point without ever doing anything.

I removed the key cylinder and this is this is what I found. I can't imagine this broken shaft is doing me any good. Any idea how much this is gonna cost me?

Any suggestions on how to get the broken piece of metal out of the ignition?

no idea about how to get the broken bit out...but replacement ignition
switches are available at autozone and the like.
I had to replace mine on my old 96 f150...at this point you too realize
its not that big a deal to remove the old and insert then new.
perhaps some skinny needle nose plyers will help remove the broken
bit...having the new/replacement switch might help to know what that
broken bit looks like (and how you might have to turn it as you pull it
out w/ the plyers)

The main problem with getting the broken piece out is that it broke off when I was turning the igniton so the inner "barrell" is turned and doesn't line up with the stationary piece so it won't simly pull out and there isn't a mm of space around the broken piece to grab onto it with pliers or anything of the sort.

I moved this out of the 911 section, it will probably get better exposure down here in the General SuperDuty forum now that we have narrowed down what is broke.

I went thru the same Flail-ex on my 91.
I was able to drill the broken shaft piece (5/64ths bit, i think) with a Dremel (for high speed & size) then snag it with a piece of wire with a drop of Super glue on it.
Sounds really Shade-Tree I know but that's my specialty.. but HEY, it worked.
