I have a 2003 F250 6.0 with 190364 miles and for a couple of months it has started surging and blowing black smoke at the same time. When it first started, it happened under a load. Then it started just happen while running empty. My mechanic said it was that my lower filter low point was dirty. I have been draining it and now for the last few weeks it’s starting to happen more often. I have taken back to my mechanic and there are no codes on my truck. Any ideals?????????:dunno :dunno

does your "mechanic" have the ablity to read "CAN" codes ?
Also have they performed an EGR command test ?

whats your boost like when its doing all this surging ?
Are your EGT's up too ?

You CAN try unplugging the egr valve (truck off) and running
it..see if it runs better/smoother.
