unfortunately odb2 isnt enough anymore...mfgs have
hidden codes and sensor data "beyond" what odb2 readers can obtain.

i was amazed that the Ford Service Tech. also did not get a code. He was realy fustrated at the begining. They were very nice to allow me in their shop and be able the talk to the tech. I was affraid it was going to be something stupid and I was going to have a big bill. He did tell me that the water/fuel filter can be quite dirty before it causes any problem. he did test the ICP and found it weak. Fuel indicator went from 13.6MPG at 50MPH to 23.7MPG. I am glad it was repaired.

CMP Recall

Voluntary Safety Recall Involving Cam Position Sensor

Ford is conducting a voluntary customer safety recall of approximately 1.18 million 1997-2003 model year Ford F-Super Duty trucks, E-Series vans and Excursions currently registered in the U.S. due to a concern over robustness of the cam position (CMP) sensor that may result in degraded engine performance including hesitation, stumble or stalling.

This recall involves older vehicles that are powered by 7.3L diesel engines manufactured by International; our current vehicle lines, which are equipped with 6.0L and 6.4L diesel engines, do not experience this issue.

Here are details on how many of each type of vehicles are being recalled, the build dates, and where they were made:

There have been 14 allegations of minor accidents or loss of control concerns, but no injuries due to this concern in over 10 years of vehicle service and billions of miles driven.

Owners will be notified (phased mailings will take place between mid-Dec and end of May) and instructed to take their vehicles to a Ford or Lincoln/Mercury dealer to have their vehicles inspected, and if necessary repaired. There will be no charge to owners for this service.

Additional note, I just had six 2001 7.3l's done under notice from Ford.

we are all pretty well aware of the CPS recall...SPECIFIC to the 7.3L

his is a 6.0L Thread !

I'll quote from your OWN post...

...6.0L and 6.4L diesel engines, do not experience this issue.

Yeah I saw that. and 2003 was cutoff date. caissiel is running a 2005 6.0.... I got a couple of 2004 6.0 without recall for cpms. Biggest problem I am having with them is delamination of fuel tank coatings. (Personally not sold on that diag.)

Consequence:
SHOULD THE ENGINE STALL, A VEHICLE CRASH COULD OCCUR.
Remedy:
DEALERS WILL UPGRADE THE FUEL INJECTION CONTROL MODULE (FICM) WIRE HARNESS OR REPLACED, AND/OR HAVE A NEW INJECTION CONTROL PRESSURE (ICP)) SENSOR CONNECTOR INSTALLED FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JULY 22, 2005. OWNERS MAY CONTACT FORD AT 1-800-392-3673.
