I have a 99 F-250, 7.3L. Started normal this morning. Got on highway, hit third gear and the engine quit like you turned it off. Attempted to restart, turns over fine but won't hit a lick. Also when you turn the key on the (wait to start) light does not come on. I had the CPS replaced about five years ago. It quit the same then, but I did not notice if the (WTS) light was working then or not. It was working fine when I first started it this morning. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Check the fuses, in the cab & under the hood. With what you describe (no WTS light).. sounds like your Fuel Heating element in the filter bowl may have shorted out.

If thats it.. The quick fix is to R&R the fuse, then disconnect the element.. at the filter housing. When you replace it.. do it with the element from HI.. it's of much better quality.

Joe

On Edit ? Don't ignore a bad CPS though.

Could be bad computer. The WTS light is just a timer weather your gp's are workin or not. Could be a sensor too like cps. Agree with Joe on cps. Newer ones can go bad. Its one of the cheaper sesnors to buy and replace. I had the one on the drivers side head go bad and my truck would start fine but as soon as the check light went off it would die like you shut the key off. Took FOREVER to fig out this prob. That sensor was expensive!

Before I sold my 1999.5 earlier this year I had gone through 4 or 5 CPS's.
