That is for sure. I have been wondering with todays prices why they don't up the limit.


I have the same 'jectors and for my weekend trip to FL pulled down a steady 16.9mpg on both tanks they varied by a few hundreths but not enough to worry about and one was even a tank of ULSD

I see i am not the only one that likes to tow in the 75 mph range, that powerband is odd, we are very strong at 75.
pass lots of dodges and chebies.

11.5 is great :thumbs we are getting a solid 11.

thinking about investing in an air purifier for the crew cab now??? :roflmao :roflmao

Actually what I did was tie a rope to the old lady and tossed her out the back and let the wind blow up her bloomers.

For the rest of you guys, I had the extreme pleasure of meeting Roland while on my trip west. He lives up on the end of a 5 mile one lane dirt road on the side of a mountain and sits on the porch with a shot gun and bottle of whiskey and shoots a guys trying to navigate a CC long bed truck in a circular driveway built for a VW.

Running empty at 65, 18+ is no problemo. Dont forget though, they can :burnit smoke a little if your heavy on the foot feed.

I was tooling into Missoula about 5 pm and there was road construction that had the right lane of I-90 closed through town and speeds reduced to 35. Some gal (most family oriented word I can think of right now) wanted to merge onto the freeway in her Iszumitsuhondayota and by golly come hell or high water she was determined that I-90 was going to STOP for her, when she finally realized that a big blac CC truck with camper in tow wasnt going to bend for her she let off the throttle just as I laid into it. I think her window was down.:burnit. My wife was giving her the universal sign of love when we went past her and fogged off about 100 yards of I-90 in a dense black haze. She never did decide to pass me after both lanes opened up, she just hung back about 5 car lengths and it looked like she was wiping her interior down.:roflmao

Thats an extreme case though Crumm, I was lugging the engine bad at 35 and there were several spots along the way that were similar circumstances (the road construction, not the "gal"). Pulling a hard grade at highway speeds all I would get was a grey haze trailing behind me.

You have to watch them Iszumitsuhondayota drivers every-time :laffup

A small haze I can deal with but a constant black cloud is embarrassing. I think this next winter I might just have to :GRD

Hey, when i read about your EGT´s i get the shivers! My old girl still has the stock injectors but it´s chiped and has a huge intercooler. In the hot summer months when i´m pulling 7500lbs+ trailers in the hills i can manage to get her up to almost 850°F. In all day use she runs on a little bit below 600.
Are you allowed to fly with 75mph with a trailer???:eek:
Speed limit in Germany for towing is around 50mph! With the 3.54 axles and the 35" tyres the old girl runs in OD at some 1300rpm and guess what mileage i get with a empty flatbed....

It´s kinda funny to see european light trucks towing in the hills with their tiny little 2.5-2.8 liter turbodiesels with some 120-150hp and 200-220lbf ft.
Screaming engines at some 35mph and i pass them in the fast lane with 55-60mph in OD (i hope no local cop is reading this...;) )

Our trucks are good for 1250°-1300° on EGT's pre-turbo. I wish I had an inter-cooler but that will be a later mod for a later day.

We are allowed to go the posted speed limit, depending upon which state you are in and what routes you are on, yes..........75 mph is legal. 23 mpg is great, dont change a thing:sweet . I was turning about 2300 rpm @ 75 mph, I've got the 4.10 gears.

Well in our tuning circles we have a rule of thump that says dont go over 800°C (1472°F) for a longer period, otherwise the edges of the pistons can start to melt. So your 1300° readings leave some security in the whole EGT thing. I´ve tried a Land Rover Tdi engine with some 950°C (1742°F) for around 25 minutes in a desert race (i squeezed 220hp and 332 lbf ft out of that little 2.5 fourbanger!) and the engine still runs perfectly (now 150.000mls on the clock) but i guess that´s some "don´t try this at home" thing ;) ...

About the fuel consumption, well that was the best result we ever had. In everyday use we get some 13-14mpg (without trailer we´re allowed to go as fast as we want to/as we can on freeways;) ).

And be shure, if the truck stays with us (the truck is a company investment and we can put investments in our tax calculation for only three years. For money´s sake we should buy something new (uuugghh some Euro truck:td: ) but we all love her so much) there shure will be a few changes (like StageII injectors, tuning programer ect). We NEVER leave things as they are:)

Fuel pumps shutting off at $75.00 is a major PITA.
HOME MADE BIODIESEL for less than .60 per gallon!
Glad your rig hung together. Aint it fun!!!!
