I can almost assure you that your vavle body is gummed up with tarnished fluid. You need to drop the pan and unbolt the vavle body, remove the vavles and thoroughly clean the vavle body. I would really recommend installing a sonnax shift kit at this time since you are into it that far and its only about another 50.00 dollars.
I had a tranny in an Explorer doing this same thing a few years ago (OK it was my fiances Exploder but.... ) and we did get by with a tranny flush and dosed it heavily with Seafoam and drove it and then reflushed it again in about 100 miles............ I wouldnt recommend this on a 1 ton dually tho.
btw........recommended fluid change interval on the E4OD is every 20,000 miles or yearly.
Thanks for the advice. I'll look into pulling the valve body and checking it out. Transmissions intimidate me some but I can always take it to a shop if I get in over my head. Also, thanks for the 20k mile info. I thought 50k was the recommended mileage change, hard lesson learned I guess. What is the recommended fuel filter change interval? And thanks again for all the info.
