Hello, I am new to this forum and was hoping someone here could help me out with a transmission problem I have been having. I have a 1995 Ford F-350 dually, crew cab, 2wd, 7.3l with an auto. It has about 113,000 miles and lately, it has been sticking in second gear during take off. It has only done this 3 or 4 times but I was curious if someone has an idea on this problem. I have changed the transmission fluid and added trans-x with no help. When it hangs up in second, the only way to get it out is to go to neutral then back into gear. Once I do this, it jumps straight to overdrive, then has to down shift to get back to going. It is not flashing the overdrive light nor do I have a check engine light. Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks, Scott

Scott,

Welcome to the forums, glad to have you with us.

Prior to your problem arising and the recent fluid change, how long had it been since a fliud change and flush was done on the tranny? It sounds t o me like you have one of your vavles in the valve body hanging up.

welcome to the forum...
wouldnt the bully dog shift kit (bigger spring) and valve pressure in the first valve body helping to shift from gear to gear (asking before i suggest it)... and what you thinking that maybe mercon V was used instead of III ???? would that cause that?

good luck

Thanks for the nice welcoming everyone. I really like my old truck and hope I can get this problem fixed without throwing a lot of cash at it. I bought the truck at 50k miles and the fluid had just been changed... according to the dealership. It was nice and red. Assuming that was the case, I did not change it until I started having the problems. I'm heading out on vacation with it as we speak so I am hoping it holds up. I am pulling a 35' camping trailer. I will not be back on the forum for about 1 week due to that fact. Thanks for all the help.

Ok, you went from 50,000 miles (if the dealer was honest with you about the fluid change at that point) to 113,000 miles on the same fluid. I can almost assure you that your vavle body is gummed up with tarnished fluid. You need to drop the pan and unbolt the vavle body, remove the vavles and thoroughly clean the vavle body. I would really recommend installing a sonnax shift kit at this time since you are into it that far and its only about another 50.00 dollars.

I had a tranny in an Explorer doing this same thing a few years ago (OK it was my fiances Exploder but.... :D) and we did get by with a tranny flush and dosed it heavily with Seafoam and drove it and then reflushed it again in about 100 miles............ I wouldnt recommend this on a 1 ton dually tho. :sweet

btw........recommended fluid change interval on the E4OD is every 20,000 miles or yearly.

I just knew it. I would be in trouble as soon as I got on this board. Thanks to Rich for dragging me here. He told me this board was friendly and down to earth and a couple of cuss words here and there don't land you in prison. Actually, from what I see I like this site better. Rich is right, I havent seen any bashing nor do I like it nor will I do it. Im happy here and dont go back to often anymore. I will share my experiences as well as ask questions galore.

We try to all get along and see each others points of view without getting nasty here. It kinda works too........ :D We may not be as big and boisterous as some of the other web sites, but we all get along.

Now, about that tranny mister.................:nono: :nono: :nutkick:
