I am planning on servicing my tranny this weekend and I would like to know if there is anything I need to do while I am at it. What filter and fluid is everybody using? Is there anything I can do or need to do while I have the pan off? I allready have the tranny temp so that is done. Is there anything I can do to make it run cooler while towing my trailer? I am presently running at 180 in 95 degree temps.

Thanks
Scott

Just make sure you refill it with Mercon SP and no other. Your temps look good.
You will need about 8 quarts of Sp to refill the pan and filter. Extra if you drain the torque converter.

would a bigger tranny pan be appropriate for heavy towing? or are you just throwing your money away?

Good question! What about a bigger oil cooler? My tranny temps have me concerned because they use to run 165 and then after the new turbo and Y pipe yesterday they are now at 185. I know this isn't bad but I worry alot when things are different than before.

Thanks

The outside temperature + 100° should be just fine for everyday driving. Just keep the oil and filter clean and enjoy.

What about front and rear diff as well as transfer case? Will I benefit from synthetic? Should I also look for synthetic to put in the tranny or is that even available?

Thanks

After it stops running out the drain hole, and assuming your parking brake is on and a wheel or two are chocked, start it for a second. Row thru reverse and drive for maybe 10-15 seconds, and then shut down. You'll get more of the old gunk out. Good idea to put down some cardboard, because it can get messy. Don't forget to change front filter which is located under front of truck by passenger side frame rail. I don't believe you have a drain plug on your converter. That fluid has a smell that you won't soon forget.
