So I just picked up a 07 F250 harley last Friday. I've noticed that when I put it in drive.. sometimes I put it in 3 accidentally but don't realize it.

Now every vehicle i've ever owned by putting it in 1, 2 or 3, it will limit the tranny from going any further but will always start in 1st.

With this truck, if I put it in 3, it stays locked in 3rd gear.. doesn't start off in 1st from a stop and work its way up. At first I thought it was my imagination, but it is such a dog.. I can floor the truck in 3 and it barely moves.. I could barely go up a little hill pulling out of a parking lot. If I put it in D while in 3 with the gas pressed down a bit, the truck jerks which tells me it changes gears (I assume goes to 1st) and the truck takes off fine.

Is this normal for fords?? Doesn't seem right to me.

yeah if you put in 1 2 or 3 it will hold that gear at any rpm. be happy lot of vehicles you gotta get a shift kit to make it do that. and dont feel so bad i do it all the tiime too.

Thanks for the reply.. What is the benefit of having this feature over having a transmission that will shift up to the gear you choose.

running in the 3 position allows a real weird tq and acceleration curve
it also reduces tq applied to the wheels which helps alot if your in a slippery spot

as far as not wanting to climb a hill in 3rd .... give it more throttle it WILL go
in my neighborhood the speed is 25 i run in 3rd often saves the tranny alot of shifts at all the darn stop signs..

but like it was said..its normal to stay in 1 2 or 3 which ever you select.

Leave it in drive and hit the towhaul. That will slow it down and keep it in low longer. Pluse the pipes are a little louder. LOL

The selectivity also comes in handy when you're in 4 low... you can better match your gear to your road conditions.

I think this is the only tranny Ford makes that does this, all the other ones kinda tard proof it. Not that I'm saying you're a tard... :roflmao
