My '00 auto 350 seems to be not shifting into OD. It seems to go through the gears and go into what I call "passing" gear and stay there. I am running about 2050 rpm @ 70 mph, should it run lower? Just really noticed it in the last few days. I can push the OD button off and the trans down shifts tried it at about 50 to see if it would. I'm not pulling anything and my mileage is still around 20.6 highway and 18.4 city. Any comments about this or am I just being cautious?

I have a 2002 F250 auto with 373s and it runs about 2000 rpm on the highway at 70mph. Your truck sounds normal to me. If you hit the OD off button and it downshifts then it should be fine.

My 2000 F350 is about the same. I wish I could get that kind of mileage, though. :(

I can't complain about my mileage it is great and I don't know what is in it besides some kind of a Banks circuit board sticking outside the silver box near the fuse panel and a silver Banks transmission box under the frame rail. :dunno I bought the truck at a auction from Ritchie Brothers in Orlando and have had about 3000 in parts and labor in it and just put Michelin 285/75's on it and it rides like a Caddy. :thumbs

if it's not going into OD, the OD light will be blinking..

for the lower ratio gearset & what's presumably a 33 or so inch tall tire, sounds pretty normal to me, too... I think (when I scan the gauges driving, I just make sure they're in roughly the same position as the last time I looked at them) my truck cruises 70 @ +/- 2200 rpm (99 F250 4x srw)

my friends truck (95 F350 2wd dually) uses a 30.5" tire (225/75 vs my 265/75) and runs at around 1900 - different gearset

Thanks JL for the info, but my light doesn't work on my OD button. It shifts out of gear and downshifts when I push it, just as normal but just seemed to go into passing gear instead of OD. But everyone here seems to run close to the same RPM's as I am with my 285/75's @ 70 they are about 2050. So I won't really worry about it. Other than that I got my new Cryo Slotted rotors and Hawk HP pads this evening and first thing in the A.M. will be hard at it swaping them and hopefully get rid of the SHAKES that I get with my brakes now.

Thanks EVERYONE.
Chris
