I have just over 112,000 miles on my stock transmission. I think it may be getting a little sluggish. The shifts are still pretty firm but the TC feels like it may be slipping a little. My temps have always been within normal limits.

I dont have the money for a BTS, but was just wondering what some other avenues I might take to beef the tranny a little.

I use my truck for pulling a gooseneck loaded with a skidsteer during the summer and in the winter I use it to haul ice melt as well as push snow. I would like to add a DP Tuner, but that will come later down the road.

Any recommendations? Remember I am on somewhat of a budget here.

Thanks

You could install an aftermarket torque converter, updated/upgraded complete bolt in valve body, shift kit (something like a transgo tugger kit) to name a few.

My original 4R100 tranny (2002 F350) lasted me 160K miles before it finally gave up the ghost. I didn't plow with it or pull anything real heavy (8000lbs max) and didn't have it chipped at that time.

if you're plowing be thrilled that it's lasted this long but that's another story.

there are two options for you

Replace your existing torque converter with a good one ($700-1000) shift kit (transgo tugger) to help increase holding pressures and flow, cool the heck out of that sucker.

Buy a transmission from someone other than BTS, contrary to internet myth there are people outside Lead Hill Arkansas that can build the E4OD/4R100.

John Woods - Holtville CA
Factory Tech Monster Box - Maineville OH
Racer X automotive - Elloree SC
DI Performance - Houston TX (platinum01 got his from these guys)

And the third option - Order pieces from someone that will give you the good parts and either do the work yourself or have the local trans shop do the work for you.

You can buy build parts in kit form from RacerX, Suncoast, and Factory Tech.

Suncoast Converters - Ft. Walton Beach FL
