Question Trans Temps

What temps do you see on your trucks? I am trying to see if my gauge is close or not. I have the sensor in a T fitting in the return line after the cooler, so I should see the temp of the fluid going in to the trans.

You may find that the tranny fluid temp after the cooler to be of little use. Pre cooler would give you the fluid temp before it gets cooled and that will tell you if you are running hot or not. It is sort of like EGT pre-turbo vs post-turbo.

Best place to place the sender is in the tranny test port. Drivers side above the pan. Here you will get an accurate temp reading.

I have upgraded my transmisson cooler with the 6.0L and my temp has never gone over 152* and that's pulling my Keystone Laredo that weigh's in at just over 8,000lbs. I have my sending unit in the port on the driverside of the transmission right next to the shifter.

I think I read someone said that you want it no hotter than 100* over the ambient temp outside. With the 6.0 cooler and synthetic fluid, I usually run 40-50* cooler than that.

My transmission temperatures never went over 175* with EOT at 210*and COT was 212* max this summer pulling our 14K toyhauler in 96* ambient air temps towing at highway speeds. The truck 05 - 6.0 has ARP studs, EGR delete, 4" Banks turbo back and Bulletproof Diesel remote oil cooler.

I am about to install a trans temp gauge in my rig. this test port on the drivers side is adaptable or is it a direct connect for the sender? I plan on using my Pro Comp/Auto Meter gauge and sender. Thank you in advance for the help.

80*-100* over ambient or 210* are the commonly accepted cutoffs.
