Installed gauges the other day and have been enjoying them. Just wondering what the normal operating temp is on the Trans sensor. The temp won't even get to 140'. Just wondering what everybody else is running.

I rarely see 150* on my guage (i know weve got different trucks but...)
even in the hot summer towing 6-8k lbs ive never seen the temp go
beyond 165*

long haul <even empty> the norm seems to be slightly less than 150*
on my guage...and even that takes 20-30min. of driving for things
to "settle" into the "normal" opp. range.

I hardly ever see temps above 125* even hauling I am lucky to see 125*. I do run an aftermarket trans pan w/cooling tubes (derale), a aftermarket cooler w/fan (flex-o-lite) and the stock cooler. The aftermarket cooler/fan helped my temps drop the most. The lower the temps the better!

Thanks guys for the help. I was just making sure that I was getting a good reading. On the way home tonight I was running just below 140. Thanks for the input.

I know what my dad's opinion is about relying on OEM guages :)haha ). My '01 had nothing, and knowing what I know now (only after reading this forum, of course), I think I overheated the EGT's a couple of times (worked it until it kinda ran outta power).

My '07 has turbo boost PSI and trans temp (generic cold/normal/hot) guages. I'd like to get an EGT guage, but is it worth it to duplicate the turbo and trans temp guages? Are there good systems out there that could just plug into the stock sensors for these? While you're at it, why does the trans temp pop right into the "normal" range just by idling a couple of minutes, but the engine takes 2.5 miles of downhill, crossing a creek (pronounced 'crick' of course) and 1/4 mile of pretty steep uphill before it budges off of "cold." I appreciate your opinions, you guys seem to have lotsa street knowledge on this stuff! :sweet

My truck should be spending about half it's time in front of a 29' travel trailer.

The EGT and Boost guages are not related in what you want. You need an EGT and probe. Put the probe in the exhaust manifold for the best and truest readings. Don't go over 1250° F for any period of time as you will melt pistons.

DaveBen-

Thanks. I plan on doing the EGT guage, looks like it's pretty important. Like I said, now I think I got near the piston meltin point at least once or twice with my '01 (don't tell the guy that bought it...). The other big question is if the factory boost guage and trans temp guage are worth anything, or if it's really alot better to just unplug them, let the dash needles rest at 0, and put aftermarket guages on the pillar.

Thanks!
