I have 2000 F350 automatic dually, 153000 miles. I install trans temp gauge and after a month, the gauge barely reads over 100deg. I have driven it with no major load on it(towing, etc.) but I figured it would go above 100deg. I triple checked the sending unit, any loose or broken elec. connections, I checked for a good chassis ground. I read the temp should be 75-100 plus ambient. I live in San Diego County, never too hot or cold. Does this sound normal? Any info is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

cant vouch for the 4r100 tranny but mine runs just under 165* when its @ op. temp.

perhaps your gauge is bad ?

could the tranny be low on fluid (and not picking up the temp) ?

I checked the fluid already to make sure that wasn't it. In terms of the gauge being bad, that would be just MY luck. I'm going to re-check everything again and let you know.

Sounds like you have a bad guage. Is the guage located near the return from the cooler? I don't have any so I don't Know.

Mine is the same. It used to run about 150deg without a load and runs around 100deg now since i put in Amsoil.:) Although it will get warmer when i am pulling with it. Try pulling with it and see if the tranny runs a little warmer.:dunno

When I'm in SDiego with my Sons, my (empty) temps run 130-140 at speed on the freeways.
