Yes there are ports to read the trans fluid temp.

Since you don't have to worry about a manual tranny temp too much, I will assume that you have an AUTO transmission, an since its in the 99+ 7.3 forum, I would assume that you have a 4R100 auto tranny. I do not believe that the ZF-5 tranny has a port, you have to add a drilled/tapped PTO cover to get that.

On the LEFT side of the tranny, above the SECOND pan bolt from the front, you will find an 11mm hex test port plug. Take it out, the trans temp sensor will screw into that port. A few drops will come out. This sender is in the fluid stream in the sump.

Thanks dpantazis yes it is a auto trans,i will look for the test port.

so you don't get confused, the pic that our resident gauge whore posted is WITH the sender inplace.

see the second pan bolt from the front?

see how clean it is under joe's truck?
