I started getting the chime and trailer fault message on dash when I step on the brake. This is with no trailer hooked up. I hooked up to two different trailers and every thing works and I don't get the message or chime while hooked up. Any ideas? Gets a little annoying.:ignore

I would check all of the connections at the plug . Sounds like a bad ground . The trailer is making the ground when it's plugged in . Just a thought .

Still doing it and I've replaced plug on truck with new oem plug in style and chased wiring harness to fuse block under the hood. There are no grounds hooked to frame from plug to fuses. I have removed all the under hood grounds and cleaned and reinstalled. Any other ideas what it might be.

FWIW I'm having the same problem with the light and message coming on but haven't noticed a pattern of when it comes on... just seems to be random.

Haven't tried anything yet... will be interested in seeing if anyone has any ideas.

I just remembered when I had my 08 I hooked to a trailer of a friends , it was wired wrong , the trailer brakes I believe , I didn't really notice a problem while towing but started getting a trailer fault message after I unhooked it . In my case it was just a bad fuse . Did you test all of the outputs at the trailer plug to see that they are working . Also did you check all fuses related to the trailer plug , with a tester .

Checked the trailer plug but have to check all fuses next.

Check for corosion where you plug in. Make sure the receiver receptacle is clean and NO moisture is present.

This is where I would start.

Hopes this helps,
