toyo open country tires

the guy told me he thought the Nitto terra grapplers would be a better mileage tire, but both would not be as good as the BFG's.

I would agree with that. Toyo is an off brand of Kelly which makes terrible tires. I have had no luck with Toyos's and neither have my buddies. Some may think they are ok, but I don't.

Toyo's are made by nitto. Go with the BFG's, I am really happy I did, and they cost me about $950.

Better check your facts, guys, Toyo tires are made by Toyo Tire & Rubber Co. Ltd (Japan)
Nitto Tire is owned by Toyo according to this article.

There is nothing wrong with Toyo's either IMHO. My bro and I both have em as well as several of my friends and I have heard no complaints

bama you gotta understand the 285/60/18 are the same as the 285/75/16 the rim size makes up for the sidewall height. i've ran bfg all terrains and those tires lasted 3 years and only had one flat from running over a pallete twice. right now i am running the nitto all terrains i have had them like 7 months and they still look brand new. both tires will do real good in the rain but in sticky mud those tires dont clean themselves worth a crap. hope all this all helps.

Don't know about the price. But my wife's truck is on it's third set of OC. They have been OK on wear and we only paid for the first set. My friend, a manager at a chain tire/ misc store warrantied the next 2 sets of 4 when she brought it in for oil changes. He said he wasn't happy with the wear.

thanks for the info there big R. i really want the tire to have somewhat of a more rounded transition from the sidewall to the actual tread of the tire.

i like how the terra grapplers, open country AT's, and even the ones i have on now roll over nice and rounded.

i dont want a sharped squared off lookin tire, and i know the BFG's are good tires (i've had three sets on my 16" rims) but the 285's and wider just dont look good to me.

i know i shouldnt be so concerned with looks, but i think with these 18" Harley wheels i have now, the right lookin/performance/mileage tire wheel really make a big diff.

Bama- this is basically going to come down to what your want your tires to look like.... all of the discussion to this point has been very helpful....you know what each tire has to offer and you can get them priced from numerous sites....i think your right on the money with either the terra grapplers or the open country AT's...i was actually looking into both of them for the 16''s that you and I had before making the upgrade to 18''s....either way your truck will look awesome

well, i finally made up my mind on the tires today.

put a down payment on some NITTO Terra Grapplers (275/70/18)

just happen to be the last set in the USA at any retailer/distributer/etc.

bein shipped out of California, should have them next week.

242.00 a tire (217.00 plus 25.00 for freight for each tire)
